About Liam Brown
Liam Brown, 21, was born in Bennington, VT and has spent much of his life engaging with art and the natural world. Today he lives in Philadelphia having recently received his BFA in Painting from Tyler School of Art at Temple University.
His work comes in many forms as he feels that experimentation is the driving force behind his practice. His process often changes based on changing subject matter and investigation of materials. However, his work holds a deep sense of searching for answers to the impossible questions within his
experience. The relationship between natural and human manifested environments has been a repeated theme in his painting.
Primarily working with oil paint, he has also incorporated unorthodox substances bound with acrylics to engage with the texture of the surface being painted on. The Surface is a part of painting gives it objectivity, making it more than a flat image. Thus all his supports are made by hand from raw materials.
Much of his work can be found at 19 Bella, a tapas style restaurant in near Skippack, PA, owned by his father Chef Grant Brown. Here the work becomes a part of a larger experience, as the artistic philosophies blend the walls with whats at the table. The space shows his father's original paintings along with other work from students of the many Philadelphia Art Schools.
